Richard Gere wed Alejandra Silva in a private ceremony at his Pound Ridge, New York, house in 2018. No public guest list, no red carpet, and no previous notice. The restraint was typical for a man who had been one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces for decades. The wedding was perfectly in line with Gere’s history of being both startlingly private and quite well-known.
At the time, Alejandra Silva was 34 years old. Gere was sixty-eight. The commentary was unavoidable given their 33-year age difference, but neither of them appeared particularly eager to address it. Before getting married, they had been dating for a number of years, and at the time of the wedding, it was obvious that their relationship was more than just a passing phase. In his late sixties and early seventies, Gere became a father once more with the birth of two sons, Alexander in February 2019 and James in April 2020.
Silva is Spanish and lived in Spain and Italy for a large portion of her life before moving to New York to live with Gere. Although she has a background in public relations, activism—particularly work related to eradicating homelessness and supporting humanitarian causes—has shaped her more prominent public persona. These ideals seem to be genuinely shared by both; Gere’s decades of Buddhist practice and his involvement in Tibetan rights advocacy established a base that transcends celebrity collaboration and appears to be more akin to a shared worldview.
She had a son from her previous marriage to Italian businessman Govind Friedland. Prior to Alejandra, Gere had two well-known marriages: his 1991–1995 union with Cindy Crawford, which garnered a lot of attention because both were at the height of their public personas at the time, and his subsequent union with actress Carey Lowell, which lasted from 2002 until a protracted and difficult divorce was finalized in 2016. Both Gere and Alejandra had successfully weathered prior marriages by the time they met, and they each offered a unique life experience to the partnership.

The pair has chosen to keep their family life mostly out of the spotlight, which is a conscious decision in the era of celebrity parenting content. Neither Gere nor Silva have turned family life into a content strategy, and their sons have not been the focus of social media documentation like many celebrity children are. Gere has long had real estate in Pound Ridge, which is approximately an hour’s drive from Manhattan. It’s close enough to the business world but far enough to live a really private life on a working estate.
